Old Fashioned Cocktail

Cocktails

This old fashioned cocktail recipe has a history. The earliest version of it was simply water, sugar, bitters, and booze. Over time, the water became ice, the booze became whiskey, and the drink became an old fashioned.

Ingredients

  • 1 sugar cube

  • 1 teaspoon water

  • 1 dash bitters

  • 2 fluid ounces whiskey (rye or bourbon)

  • 1 lemon twist

  • ½ cup ice cubes, or as needed

  • 1 orange slice, for garnish

  • 1 maraschino cherry, for garnish

Description

  1. Gather all ingredients.

  2. Muddle sugar cube, water, and bitters in an old fashioned glass for 1 minute. Pour in whiskey; stir for 1 minute.

  3. Squeeze lemon twist over the glass and drop it in. Add ice cubes. Garnish with orange slice and maraschino cherry; serve with a swizzle stick.
